Let The Beauty We Love Be What We Do - Rumi

You were born with potential
You were born with goodness and trust
You were born with ideals and dreams
You were born with greatness
You were born with wings
You are not meant for crawling, so don't.
You have wings
Learn to use them, and fly.
~ Rumi

One of my favorite poems by Rumi, I have this plastered on my bedroom wall as a daily reminder. Sometimes we forget how great we all are and these little subtle reminders can help lift our vibration and re-connect with our inner guidance system.

I like flipping through books like "The Essential Rumi" or The Prophet [Khalil Gibran] before creating because it puts me in a better place spiritually. As a result, I am illuminated, limitless and free of censorship. - These are pieces I created over the weekend using some new raw materials and old favorites sourced from over the years. I was flipping through my daughters National Geographic book this weekend and felt inspired to create pieces for the warrior inside of each goddess. I have a few more items on my workbench that I will complete in the next few weeks. Items pictured are available in the shop now!

I added some new earrings:
Nubia Drop Earrings $35
Red Phoenix Drop Earrings $36
Isis Drop Earrings $35
Kemet Fringe Earrings $24
 Byzantium Tassel Drop Earrings $28
-
And some necklaces:
Benin Tribal Necklace $44
Amina Warrior Breastplate Necklace - $65
Papua Howlite Double Strand Necklace $82
 Prospect Necklace | Specimen N0. 01 - $26
Prospect Necklace | Specimen N0. 05 - $26
And some cocktail rings made from genuine gemstones
 Prospect Rings - $21 each

Playing Around With Brass - New Pieces In The Shop

- Cairo Half Moon Earrings
I finally got around to playing with my sheet of brass, and these are the designs I came up with! These pieces are simplistic, yet have somewhat of an earthy, organic feel to them I kinda dig. Each component is hand-cut from a sheet of brass using one of my drawings as a stencil. I then sand each piece to smooth out the corners/edges and give the finished product a brushed, slightly textured, matte finish. All styles pictured are currently available in the shop {here} and more styles will be added in the coming weeks [as well as some smaller options].

14K, 18K, & 24K Gold available upon request [but with the price of gold as of late, I would stick to brass..lol].

I have been experimenting with my hair lately, and did two failed braid-outs on blow-dried hair. The result was this Rudy Huxtable-esque do' [thanks Lo] you see before you. I am going to try a twist out this week using Karen's Body Beautiful Sweet Ambrosia, hopefully it turns out well!

- Cairo Crescent Earrings
- Cairo Pyramid Earrings

EDIT: Thank you everyone for the wonderful comments on the earrings! - The earrings are extremely lightweight as I used a thinner sheet of brass so that these would actually be wearable..lol

I will post some photos of my hair in this style tomorrow so that you can see the epic fail up close and personal. It isn't that I don't like the volume, it's the lack of curl pattern that I don't think I am feeling. - You all can be the judge tomorrow!

Snaphots: Around The Town & In The Studio!

This weekend my mom and I went sourcing materials for her prospective home furnishings line. We checked out tribal fabrics, interesting trims and boring stuff like down pillow inserts and manufacturing company's in small, old buildings.

This caught my eye while my mom was off looking at leather!

There were rows upon rows of beautiful trim!

Dinosaur-size tassels!
I wound up purchasing some butter-soft leather and suede for cuffs to put in the shop! - I also picked up some wax fabric and Ethiopian brass beads from my buddy Abede!
Of course no trip was complete without some lunch. Instead of doing the usual Thai stop, we chose to indulge in some fried chicken, yams and greens goodness. Count me in for an extra hour [or two] of cardio this week. lol

Later on that day I worked on some pieces and shipped out orders. I also finally added worldwide shipping!

Here are a few pieces currently in production! Check back tomorrow for a special giveaway + new pics of pieces that will be in the shop tomorrow morning.

A few inspiration items hanging in the studio!

My Jewelry Line Is Finally Here!

As many of you already know, one of my major goals this year has been to launch my jewelry line. Between creating pieces for stylists and running a blog full time [oh yeah and life]; my time has been pretty sparse as of late. In the past few months, I have created a series of pieces that I will launch weekly in my new store Frank & Myrrh, starting with the 11 designs currently up for grabs. To view the full collection, click {here}

Each piece is handcrafted by me with love. My pieces are made with genuine gemstones, quality metals like gold and silver, and 14K gold ear-wires. Some of my jewelry may have a very ethnic feel, as I love the uniqueness of components handcrafted in other countries. My imported components are all fair-trade from skilled artisans across the globe with a specific focus on Africa.

I won't bog you down with tons of jewelry pictures weekly, so if anyone is interested in keeping up with store updates I created a Tumblr page [you can view it here] which will preview new pieces and collections.

Check Me Out:
Store: www.frankandmyrrh.com
Tumblr: www.frankandmyrrh.tumblr.com

EDIT:
To answer a few questions:
  • I will take the advice given in the comments and model the jewelry so that you can get an idea of the size of the piece, as well as what it looks like on.
  • Many of you mentioned that you didn't mind viewing pictures of new pieces added to the shop. So I will keep that in mind and also post a few pictures here as well as the Tumblr page [www.frankandmyrrh.tumblr.com] <<--Finally fixed my link.
  • I finally added UK shipping!
I will also check with my supplier this weekend to see if they offer 14K Gold or Sterling Silver clip-on posts - I prefer to use those materials as they last longer and work well with those that have skin sensitivity issues.
